This is the story of a monument that has towered over Delhi for over 800 years. It was born when the first Islamic king took control of Delhi, and was still standing tall when the last of the Mughal emperors had to give up his throne. This tall tower made a massive statement, that marked the arrival of a new reign, a new religion, a new culture and a new style of architecture into India. But then, Qutub Minar is just one part of this large complex. Walk with us as we uncover stories of the powerful men and women who ruled these parts. We’ll speak about slaves who became kings and we’ll unravel the mysteries of the famous iron pillar that has not rusted even after being out in the open for over 1600 years.

Timings
The complex is open between 7:00AM and 5:00PM, seven days of the week.
Tickets
You will have to buy a ticket to enter the complex. There are different rates for Indians and for foreign visitors.
Photography
Photography is permitted inside the museum. You can purchase a camera ticket at the entrance.

As you walk through the Qutub Minar complex, look out for the Iron Pillar built in the 4th century by Chandragupta II. You will also see the Ala'i Darwaza (1311 CE) and the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque (1197 CE) built in the Indo-Islamic style of architecture by Qutb-ud-din Aibak. The complex also houses Smith’s Sundial and Sanderson’s folly. The Qutub Minar itself is the tallest brick minaret in the world and stands at 72.5 meters.
