Rock Garden, Chandigarh

The Rock Garden of Chandigarh is all rubbish, really. Its creator, Nek Chand, collected broken bottles, pipes and tiles, and repurposed it all into quirky sculptures, spread over 12 acres in a forest. The work was kept hidden for 18 years. When it was discovered in 1975, public support for it ensured that not only was the illegal garden allowed to remain, Nek Chand was even given an official title and a salary to manage the Garden, along with over 50 helping hands! The Rock Garden receives over 5000 visitors everyday.
