Deep under the waters of the Bhagirathi river lies the old town of Tehri, the capital of the princely state of Tehri-Garwhal in British India. It was submerged due to the construction of the Tehri Dam, and the population resettled in the New Tehri town. Did you know that Tehri Dam is the tallest dam in India, and the second tallest in Asia? The project, which was first piloted in 1961, took 45 years to complete and the dam was inaugurated in 2006.
