Chandraketugarh

In the 1950s, archaeologists unearthed a rich haul of sophisticated terracotta and ivory art at Chandraketugarh, about 35 Kms from Kolkata. The pieces beautifully depict various aspects of life about 2300 years ago. Apparently Chandraketugarh was a riverine port on the banks of River Bidyadhari, and was known to ancient Greeks and Romans. Was Chandraketu another name for Chandragupta Maurya? Was this city an eastern link to the Indus Valley civilization? Historians are yet to solve the mystery.
