The Gol Gumbaz is one of the world’s largest domes. It was constructed in 1656 at Bijapur as the tomb of King Mohammed Adil Shah. It is 44 metres in diameter and has no support pillars. The dome is acoustically so perfect, that a whisper at one end can be heard at the opposite end about 38 metres away. A small clap echoes several times across the chamber.
