East India Company in confrontation with Mysorean rockets

Congreve Rocket

A deadly weapon used by the British against the French in the Napoleonic wars was the Congreve Rocket. Where did the British get the technology from? From the Mysore Sultans in South India! During the late 1700s, the Mysore army had evolved an early form of the iron-cased rockets and greatly harassed the British. After several battles, the British finally defeated the Mysore army. They grabbed their rocket technology and developed the Congreve Rocket.
