How to use this audio tour?

Our trail begins at the ticket Counter of the Five Rathas monument. If you have a vehicle, you can park it at the Five Rathas Parking lot and walk to the ticket counter.

Welcome to the Mamallapuram audio tour.

This audio tour takes you through the ancient port town of Mamallapuram. The route of this tour will take you past monuments, many of which are over 1,300 years old. Points of interest are marked by location flags on the app. To listen to a story, simply click on the flag and press play. You can also play a story by clicking on the QR code icon in the app, and scanning the QR codes placed at various locations in Mamallapuram. This app allows you to play, pause and replay any of the stories.

The tour takes you through 4 main locations with many stories at each location - the Five Rathas, the Shore temple, the monuments around the Varaha cave and the Tiger cave. The first three are in Mamallapuram town, and they cover a walkable distance. The last one, Tiger Cave, is about 11 Kms away, on the way to Chennai, and you will need a vehicle to get there. If you have a vehicle, park it first at the Five Rathas monument where the tour begins.

The tour is approximately 90 minutes long. If you are short on time, you can choose to play only the stories that are marked by a star. These are the highlights and should take you about 60 minutes.

If time is not a constraint, we highly recommend that you experience the entire tour, following the route suggested by the app.
